As we cross the threshold of 40, we are more driven towards our physical health – managing cholesterol and blood sugar levels, eating healthy, and reducing doctor visits. But do we really spare a thought for our mental well-being? No Sir, we don’t. Hence, the worst prey becomes our brain as it starts ageing sooner than expected. It is inevitable for our brain to age to some extent but we can definitely decelerate this process.

Reaching 40 and becoming cognitively foggy is a wake-up call. It means your brain power is slowly declining and you should act soon to recede that process. Here are a few simple methods to enhance your brain’s youthfulness:

Sleep More at Night:
Catching up on some more sleep is akin to taking a sip or two from the fountain of youth. There are mounting examples that giving your brain more rest helps reduce its ageing. Experts believe that seven to nine hours of sleep is a prerequisite.

Eat Food that Boost Brainpower:
Food has a pivotal role to play in your mental well-being. Health experts suggest that eating a lot of leafy greens, fish, beans, and nuts that are enriched with omega-3 fatty acids is therapeutic for your brain. Further, spices such as turmeric and drinks such as green tea are known to stimulate brain functions.

Keep Physically Fit:
Physical fitness is the stimulus to your mental health; the brain also motivates you to learn. It is proved by medical science that the more you exercise, the more your brain grows. Just as exercise improves your balance and mobility, so it reflects positively on your brain.

Share to Grow:
Try roping in your friends while you engage in some activities. Maintaining social relationships entail complexities that demand your brain’s attention. So, such relationships tend to boost your brain’s flexibility. When you are regularly in touch with your family and friends, it will instill fresh multi-tasking skills in your brain and of course, it will affect your reasoning power. In order to feel connected and widen your social boundaries, some feasible ways are joining community classes or book clubs. Practising mindfulness and striving to stay happy also help enhance your psychological longevity.

What other practices, when followed, can reduce the rate of aging of the brain? Do let us know!
