India has always been known as the land of wonders. And wonderful it is! The hospitality of this rich nation has always been spoken about. However, India is also making massive strides in fields such as science, technology, and sports.

Here is a list of 10 times that India and Indians made the world proud!

1. Boxer Mary Kom Created History
The 35-year-old Mary Kom became the most successful boxer in the history of Women’s World Championship by winning her sixth gold medal in 2018.  It was the seventh time Mary Kom was competing in the World Boxing Championship.

2. ISRO Successfully Launched PSLV-C28 Carrying Five Satellites. 
Known to be the heaviest commercial launch by the Indian Space Research Organization, the PSLV-C28 amounted to 1440 kgs.

3. Chandrayaan-1 Discovers Evidence of Water on the Moon
India’s first mission to the moon was launched by the Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) and operated for almost a year from October 2008 to August 2009. ISRO is developing a successor mission called Chandrayaan-2, which is expected to be launched in 2019.

4. Bollywood Makes the Most Movies in the World
India is the world’s largest film-making nation, with approximately 1,000 feature films being produced each year by the Indian film industry, Bollywood. This is twice as much the number of films produced by Hollywood each year.

5. Sir C. V Raman won the Nobel Prize for Physics
Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, also called Sir C. V Raman, an Indian Physicist, won a Nobel Prize in 1930 for his ground-breaking work on the scattering of light, a phenomenon also known as the Raman Effect.

6. India-Born Heads Google
Sundar Pichai needs no introduction. He is the CEO of Google and joined the organization in 2004. Born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, he graduated from IIT Kharagpur, one of the most prestigious engineering schools in India.

7. India-Born Heads Microsoft
The current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft, one of the biggest tech giants in the world, is India-born Satya Nadella. He was born in Hyderabad and graduated from Manipal Institute of Technology in 1988. Nadella has always maintained that he always wanted to build things.

8. India is the Land of Yoga
‘International World Yoga Day’ is celebrated each year on June 21 since its inception in 2015. Yoga is a world-renowned form of meditation and exercise that originated in ancient India. Millions across the globe seek spiritual and health benefits through yoga.

9. The Undisputed Kabaddi Champions
India is the only country in the world to have won all the Kabaddi World Cups in both men’s and women’s format. While the men’s World Cup was initiated in 2010, the women’s was inaugurated in 2012.

10. INS Arihant – India’s First Indigenously Developed Nuclear Submarine
This submarine has the ability to fire nuclear-tipped missiles from land, air and sea. India is now part of an elite club of countries – Russia, the US, China, France, and the UK that possess nuclear ballistic missile submarines.
