The word Gmail is synonymous with email. It is by far the most used and popular email provider in the world. In 2012, it surpassed Hotmail to become the most popular email provider. Today, it is the market leader in free email services and has over one and a half billion users across the globe. And, it is showing no signs of stopping.

Gmail celebrated its 15th birthday on 1st April 2019! Launched at a time when email was very different from what it is today, Gmail worked on the pain points of users and came up with some ingenious features that users could not say no to. For instance, back in the early 2000s, storage of emails was a major problem and one had to constantly delete emails to stay under the storage limit. Further, spam emails were a common feature and one’s inbox would be cluttered with irrelevant and unsolicited email. Also, there was no way in which one could search one’s email for any specific email.

All of this changed when Gmail was introduced. It introduced 1 GB of free storage space – a luxury in those times. It also blocked spam emails like no other email service provider ever did. Also, with time, it beautifully evolved from being desktop-only to working seamlessly on phones and tablets.

And here is the good news. Gmail is giving its users some return gifts for its birthday. It announced some wonderful new features for its users. Read on to know what they are!

What’s new for Gmail users?

Gmail is becoming more assistive from now on. Certainly, all of us have seen the AI-powered feature called Smart Compose that helps us write less by predicting text. This feature will now be available on Android devices, and will also be available on iOS soon. It will also be available on four other languages – Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese. Also, this feature is sharpening up its skills – so now, it will be able to suggest the subject line based on the content of the email. How cool is that?!

Further, Gmail will now have a new schedule feature that will help you schedule emails. Also, users will now be able to do a lot more tasks without having to navigate away from Gmail. For instance, you can now respond to comments thread in Google docs without moving away from the email itself.

Why is Gmail so popular?

One of Gmail’s best aspects is, perhaps, its easy-to-use, interactive, and intuitive interface. There is minimum clutter and emails are neatly organized into various folders such as starred, sent, and drafts. The super-effective spam protection that it provides keep the junk and spam from coming into your inbox, helping you to focus on the important emails. Also, the built-in chat service is a saviour and you can also quickly connect with others online. Further, it provides a massive 15GB of free space. What else would you need!

Wishing Gmail a very happy birthday and hoping that it keeps us happy and connected for the next 15 years too!
