Today, you will find an app for pretty much everything. Buying groceries, ordering food, doing laundry, and finding a date can be done at the comfort of your home with just a few clicks. But here is a wonderful app that will let you help the visually impaired! Read on for more.

‘Be my Eyes’ is a free app that allows you to volunteer by helping the blind. Launched in 2015, it currently has 2 million volunteers and 130k blind users. The purpose of this app is to make the world more accessible to the visually impaired and the low-vision people.

How does ‘Be my Eyes’ work?

The app allows the visually impaired person to make a video call to a sighted person. The calls can be answered by people from anywhere in the world. The visually impaired can then ask for help from the sighted person. Usually, the blind require and ask for assistance for tasks like buying groceries, reading labels, finding lost items, or reading expiry dates.

Reviews from users

Since its launch, the app is being appreciated worldwide for its idea and purpose. Here are a few responses from the people on social media:

Since the ratio of the helpers and people seeking help is very uneven, people get calls once in a while. However, the response rate of the calls is very fast.

Hans Jørgen Wiberg is the founder of this amazing app and he is visually impaired himself. He came up with this idea when his visually impaired friend told him that he used video calls to his family for helping him with daily chores.

The app is definitely making a huge difference in the life of blind people across the globe. ‘Be my eyes’ is definitely uniting people to help out the visually impaired people. Don’t you think this is a beautiful initiative?

If you’d like to be a part of this wonderful and inspiring community, you can download the app here.
