4th October is celebrated as World Animal Day across the world to elevate the standard of animals and improve their welfare standards. It also seeks to mobilise people for action now for a better future for animals.

This day is observed on 4th October to commemorate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, widely recognized as the patron saint of ecology and of animals.
