The ‘Lions of the Great War’ monument – depicting a turbaned Sikh soldier – was commissioned by the Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick in England. It is raised to honor South Asian soldiers, who fought as part of the British Indian Army and stood unflinching in the battlefield during WWI. It marks 100 years of the end of the WW1, which ended in 1918.
