Japan’s real estate developer Mitsubishi Estate Co. recently announced that Japan’s tallest skyscraper at 390 metres will be built in Tokyo.

Named ‘Torch Tower,’ the innovative structure is inspired by a flaming torch and is being constructed in front of the Tokyo Station, the main railway hub of the capital city of Japan. The skyscraper will be unveiled in 2027 and is part of a wider 31,400-square-meter urban development plan, with three other buildings and a 7,000-square-meter plaza.

The estimated cost of constructing the building is 500 billion yen.

It will have 63 floors, most of which will be used as office spaces. The building will also house a luxury hotel, several restaurants, shops, and a grand hall.

Interestingly, the top of the tower – the torch’s ‘flame’ – will be a dedicated observation deck called ‘sky hill’ from where visitors can enjoy a bird’s eye view of Tokyo and the breathtaking views of the tallest mountain in Japan – Mount Fuji.

The name Torch Tower was inspired from a wish to lighten up Japan like a torch, Mitsubishi Estate said in a statement.

Once constructed, this tower will significantly surpass the tallest building in Japan currently – the 300-meter Abeno Harukas in the western city of Osaka. It will also be taller than a 330-metre skyscraper that is currently being constructed in central Tokyo’s Toranomon-Azabudai district by Mori Building Company and is expected to be completed in 2023.

Isn’t the design of this structure amazing? Let us know your views in the comment section below.
