It was a double celebration for the British royal family this weekend. The monarch of England, Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 93rd birthday on 21st April 2019. This also coincided with Easter Sunday.

She was joined by her family – Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry – the Duke of Sussex at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle for Easter service.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, who is expecting her first child soon, did not attend the service. However, she did post a message for the Queen on her new Instagram handle that she shares with her husband, Prince Harry.

The Queen generally celebrates her birthday in a private fashion. But, this day is marked by gun salutes across London as a mark of respect.

It is interesting to note that the Queen has two birthdays. Her real one is on the 21st of April – she was born in 1926. However, the official celebrations are held on the second Saturday of June. As per the British royal tradition, the official celebrations to commemorate the birthday of a King or Queen are held on a day that is not their actual birthday. This convention was started off by King George II way back in 1748.

Wishing the Queen a happy and healthy life ahead, and many more such birthdays!
