American actor, producer, director, and humanitarian Kirk Douglas passed away at the age of 103 in February 2020. Known for his explosive acting style, he acted in over 90 movies across his career. Interestingly, he was critically acclaimed apart from being a leading box-office star in the 1950s. For his contribution to the world of cinema, Douglas received an honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.

When he passed away recently, the world of cinema lost one of its most precious gems.

But Douglas, who was often known for his philanthropic activities, continued his charity even in his death.

According to various reports, Douglas left a majority of his $61 million fortune to be distributed to philanthropic activities through his Douglas Foundation, which was set up by him and his wife Anne in 1964.

According to the website of the Foundation, its “principal goal is to help those who cannot otherwise help themselves.”

Reports from Mirror stated that some of the beneficiaries include St Lawrence University, which funds a scholarship for minority and underprivileged students. Earlier in 2016, the Foundation had donated $2 million to the University to support a scholarship program called the Kirk Douglas Scholarship Fund and to maintain the Kirk Douglas Hall, a housing center that holds around 155 beds.

Other beneficiaries include the Westwood’s Sinai Temple, which houses the Kirk and Anne Douglas Childhood Center; Culver City’s Kirk Douglas Theatre, a dilapidated movie theater restored as a live performance venue, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Isn’t this an amazing bit of news? What do you think? Do let us know your views in the comments section below.
