A 96-year-old Taiwanese grandpa’s passion for painting cute animals has made his village a huge tourist attraction and saved it from certain demolition. The once decrepit village of 1,200 households is now called ‘The Rainbow Village’ after Huang’s labor of love made it a huge canvas of bright, pulsating colors. Huang began painting dainty cats, dogs, and pigs on buildings in this Taichung City village seven years ago after the authorities wanted to knock it down. The city government now does not dare touch the village as it receives more than one million tourists every year.
