World Population Day is observed on 11th July by the United Nations each year. This day seeks to bring to the attention of the world the urgency and importance of population issues. It also seeks to raise awareness about the correlation between population and the environment. Further, it seeks to address various population issues such as family planning, maternal health, global displacement, and human rights.

It is observed on 11th July to mark the Day of Five Billion, which was observed on 11 July 1987.

The first World Population Day was observed in 1990 by 90 nations across the world.

According to reports, each year, around 83 million people are being added to the world’s population. By these estimates, the global population will reach 8.6 billion by 2030, and 9.8 billion in 2050.

This kind of massive growth in population might deplete the natural resources of the world much quicker than anticipated, posing a threat to the sustainability of the world.

According to Pew Research Global, here is a list of countries that will see the biggest gains and losses in terms of their population.
