While you would have heard hundreds of stories on cops nabbing thieves and criminals in innovative ways, this story is like no other.
Balakishan Chaubey, 55, is a dreaded dacoit in the central Madhya Pradesh state of India. Several cases of murder and robbery were piling up against him and his henchmen, who were known to rob villagers of that area. Unfortunately, the police had failed in their attempts to capture the man despite the fact that there were several raids conducted in his hideout.
Chaubey had been absconding for several months now. And, from where he was hiding, he sent a few messages to his friends and acquaintances to look out for a bride for him.
It was here that the Sub-inspector Madhavi Agnihotri of Naugaon, a small town in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh took note and hatched an ingenious plan to nab this criminal. She decided to pose as a prospective bride!
She arranged for a SIM card with a false identity and called Chaubey, saying that she dialled his number in error. However, Chaubey took note of the number, checked her whereabouts and called her back. Subsequently, the two began speaking to each other and Madhavi was successful in setting a trap to catch the criminal.
“Police arranged a SIM card of New Delhi circle in the name of a woman labourer from Bundelkhand, who is presently living in New Delhi. The woman sub-inspector called Chaubey and said she mistakenly dialled his number. Chaubey asked her whereabouts and later he checked the credentials of the number. Chaubey called her back and they started talking to each other. After a week, the woman proposed marriage to him,” said Tilak Singh, superintendent of police, Chhatarpur to Hindustan Times.
According to NDTV, she also sent an old picture of herself posing as a bride to the criminal by means of her informers.
The two then decided to meet in a temple of Bijouri village for a date. And it was here that sub-inspector Madhavi arrived with her team and nabbed the rogue!
Chaubey was then produced in court and sent to prison.
