EYOS Expeditions and Caladan Oceanic have announced a unique but very interesting and a once-in-a-lifetime expedition. They have come up with the first ever opportunity for explorers to dive to the deepest point of the world’s oceans. Finding it hard to believe this? It is very true!

You can now become one of the first 15 humans to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench/Challenger Deep, which is an astounding 10,928 metres or 35, 853 feet deep!

According to the Founding Partner of EYOS Expeditions Rob McCallum, only 7 people in the world have made it to the Challenger Deep. This figure seems extremely small when compared to 4,000 people reaching the Mount Everest and 562 going to space!

And, you could be one of the next three people to go to Challenger Deep!

EYOS announced a first ever opportunity to dive the Mariana Trench & support exploratory science. Three Mission Specialists will join us in June and be in the first 15 humans to reach the bottom of the Challenger Deep at 10,928 meters deep https://t.co/EuCIMxI29g?@reevejolliffe pic.twitter.com/s7F4xdWt88

More about the expedition

This dive is part of a bigger and much longer six-month expedition operated by EYOS and Caladan Oceanic to study the ocean’s virtually unknown hadal zone.

While the dates have not been finalized, this expedition will take place in June 2020. EYOS is inviting three explorers, called Mission Specialists, to board the hadal exploration vessel DSSV Pressure Drop in Agat, Guam. They will reach the Mariana Trench after an entire day in the sea.

Caladan Oceanic’s submersible Limiting Factor will be used for the dive. According to the website, this is the only vehicle designed that is capable of multiple dives to the full ocean depth. Interestingly, this vehicle is very experienced – it has already dived to the bottom of the Mariana Trench 5 times! Remarkably, because the vehicle has a 90mm thick titanium sphere, the occupants do not experience any pressure changes or physiological stresses.

The Mission Specialists will receive an extensive shipboard and sub orientation before they undertake the dive. However, according to EYOS, no formal pre-departure training is mandatory.

While on the expedition, the Mission Specialists can work in collaboration with the sonar operators, submersible technicians, and the expedition management team to get a deeper understanding of a hadal exploration.

Isn’t this just wonderful?

While the details of the cost of the expedition have not been divulged, you can check with EYOS Expedition themselves for more details.
