June is a special month for the entire LGBTQ community across the world. To commemorate the Stonewall riots, June is celebrated as the Pride Month. Many pride events are held across various countries in the world to recognize and honour the LGBTQ community.

And it is exactly at this favourable time that a picture of a Sikh man with a resplendent rainbow turban has gone viral.

Jiwandeep Kohli, whose Twitter bio describes him as ‘#Neuroscientist | Clinical #Psychologist in Training | Amateur Pastry #Chef | Sometimes #Photographer | #SciComm Enthusiast | #BiInSci |’, from San Diego tweeted a picture of himself wearing a custom-made rainbow turban to support the LGBTQ cause. Calling himself a “bisexual bearded baking brain scientist,” Kohli posted that he feels fortunate in being able to express his identity freely and added that he would work towards ensuring the same freedom for others.

Here is the original tweet:

And in no time, the picture went viral! Netizens couldn’t stop gushing over this amateur baker, who is also a neuroscientist. The picture has been loved 143,000 times and shared over 20,000 times since it was shared! Though Kohli designed the turban last year, he shared the photo on 1st June, the first day of the pride month.

Needless to say, Kohli was over the moon with the responses that his picture received.

But what really was the icing on the cake was that the picture was retweeted by the former President of the United States, Barack Obama with a wonderful message for Kohli.

And Kohli, being the quick-witted man that he is, did have a wonderful response to the former President.

Kohli, however, has been in the spotlight before and is not new to attention: he was a contestant on ‘The Great American Baking Show.’
