Tulsi Gabbard to Run for US President in 2020

Tulsi-Gabbard

Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, Representative from Hawaii, announced that she will run for the President in 2020, challenging incumbent President Donald Trump. The 37-year old is an Iraq War veteran and has the distinction of being the first American Samoan and the first Hindu Member of the Congress. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2012.

She emerged on the national political scene in 2016, when she resigned as the vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, to extend her support to Bernie Sanders, who was campaigning against Hillary Clinton in the presidential campaign.

She joins a crowded area, in which many Democrats are looking to contest for the President. Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts has already announced her candidature. Many more Democrats such as former Vice-President Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are expected to announce their decisions soon. Also, Senators Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand are expected to join the fray.
