In these extraordinary times when social distancing and self-isolation is the norm, world leaders are also adhering strictly to the protocol.

Leaders of the G20 – an international forum of the governments for 19 biggest economies of the world and the European Union – held the Extraordinary Virtual Summit on 26th March 2020 to form a collective and collaborative global action plan to combat the deleterious coronavirus pandemic.

Coordinated by Saudi Arabia, the meeting was attended by world leaders of 20 nations through video conferencing. American President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Canadian Prime Minsiter Justin Trudeau, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the conference.

Lasting for about 90 minutes, the meeting was chaired by Saudi King Salman, who is presiding over the G20 this year. The main agenda of the meeting was to find ways to tackle the virus and its economic repercussions.

In opening remarks, the Saudi king said, “We are holding this meeting to carry out our responsibilities as the leaders of the world’s largest economies, in order to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, which requires that we take firm measures on various fronts.”

“This human crisis requires a global response. The world counts on us to come together and cooperate in order to face this challenge.”

The leaders agreed to take all necessary measures to contain the pandemic and protect their people. The nations also pledged to inject a whopping $5 trillion into the global economy to mitigate the economic impact of the virus.

In these tough times, we believe that it is only a coordinated global response that would help the world fight this lethal virus.
