We know former First Lady Michelle Obama dons many hats. A lawyer by profession, she is also a best-selling author and an activist.

Recently, however, she has added another feather to her cap by bringing in her own brand of storytelling to kids under quarantine.

Collaborating with PBS KIDS, Penguin Young Readers, and Random House Children’s Books, Michelle Obama has come up with ‘Mondays with Michelle Obama,’ where she will host a series of read-alongs for young children.

I’m thrilled to share some of my favorite children’s books and give kids an opportunity to practice their reading (while giving families a much-needed break!).

Join me, @PBSKIDS, and @penguinrandom for read-alongs on Mondays at 12pm ET on @PBSKIDS Facebook and YouTube! https://t.co/839isAWKSt

Celebrating the magic of books and storytelling, she will read classic children’s books, starting with ‘The Gruffalo’ written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler on Monday, 20th April. She will continue with the series by reading out books such as “There’s a Dragon in Your Book” by Tom Fletcher (April 27), “Miss Maple’s Seeds” by Eliza Wheeler (May 4) and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle (May 11).

“As a little kid, I loved to read aloud. And when I became a parent, I found such joy in sharing the magic of storytelling with my own children — and then later, as first lady, with kids everywhere,” Obama said in a statement.

“At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories (and to give parents and caretakers a much-needed break).”

The icing on the cake is that apart from the storytelling, every episode of the series will also include engaging activities and resources for each of the books.

The videos will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of PBS Kids and Penguin Random House and on the YouTube channel of PBS Kids.

We certainly are excited about this new initiative by the dynamic Michelle Obama. How about you?
