International Day of Education to be observed on 24 January

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~ Nelson Mandela

In commemorating the significant role of education for the development of the world, the United Nations has proposed declaring 24 January as the ‘International Day of Education.’ The resolution was adopted in December 2018, hence, this year will be the first celebration of this day.

The exclusive body of the United Nations, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will facilitate and oversee the celebrations and observations of this day across the world.

Education in today’s world is not just a human right but also a way for sustainable development. Education has a massive role to play in eradicating poverty, building peaceful societies, and promoting gender equality. In view of these factors, it is imperative that this day is celebrated.
