The United Arab Emirates (UAE) bestowed its highest civilian honour, the ‘Order of Zayed’, to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has been honoured with this award for his efforts to boost bilateral relations between the two nations.
Modi was announced as the recipient of the award earlier in April 2019.
The award is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.
The Prime Minister took to Twitter to thank the government of the UAE for this honour. He posted the pictures of him receiving the honour with the following message:
“Humbled to be conferred the ‘Order of Zayed’ a short while ago. More than an individual, this award is for India’s cultural ethos and is dedicated to 130 crore Indians. I thank the UAE Government for this honour.”

The Indian Prime Minister is on a visit to the UAE currently. This is the first time that he is visiting the nation after being re-elected a second time in 2019.
India and the UAE have enjoyed close ties across the year with UAE being India’s third-largest trade partner.
Several eminent leaders across the world such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Queen Elizabeth II, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Queen of Netherlands, Beatrix have been awarded this honour earlier.
