Indian Finance Minister proposes TV Channel to aide funding for startups

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed to start a dedicated television channel, presented from the Doordarshan bouquet, to provide a platform for funding and growth of the startups in India. Presenting the national budget recently, she said that the channel will act as a platform to bring startups and venture capitalists (VCs) together. She added that the channel will be designed and managed by the startups only.

StandUp India is one of the flagship programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It encourages entrepreneurship among women and middle-class families.
“The initiative has greatly made a difference in the employment rate as well as promoting entrepreneurship among women and it will continue till 2025,” said Nirmala Sitharaman
Apart from the television channel, Sitharaman also presented a host of tax initiatives and policies to benefit startups.
At a time when the growth in India is not as expected, the government is promoting startups. The Doordarshan bouquet of channels is one of the measures that were proposed exclusively for the growth of startups.
