Is Your Sunscreen Killing the Coral Reef?

The chemical Benzophenone used in sunscreens hardens corals in the larval stage and closes them up in their own skeleton. This toxin also harms a microalga that is essential for the well-being of corals. Due to an increase in coral reefs damaged, few countries like Hawaii and Palau have taken measures to protect the seabed. Hawaii is the first country to ban sunscreens that contain oxybenzone and octinoxate.

Bernard Arnault joins $100 billion club

The richest man in Europe, Bernard Arnault has made it to this club with his fortunes increasing by a whopping $32 billion this year. It is reported that his wealth is more than 3 per cent of the economy of France! Bernard Arnault is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the French luxury goods conglomerate, LVHM, which is a consortium of more than 70 brands.

Aparna Kumar: First Indian IPS officer to scale the highest peak in North America

Aparna Kumar recently became the first Indian Indian Police Service (IPS) officer to scale the highest peak in North America. After scaling the Mount Everest in 2016, Aparna Kumar, a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the Indo-Tibetan Border Police is the first civil servant to make this record. She has successfully conquered the South Pole and has now successfully scaled Mount Denali, the highest peak in North America.

Ursula von der Leyen: First woman European Commission President

Germany’s outgoing Defence Minister and a long-standing member of the German cabinet, Ursula von der Leyen was elected the first female President of the European Commission. She will replace Jean-Claude Juncker, who has been serving as the President since 2014 and will step down on 31st October.

24-year-old Created Organic Zero-Waste Food Packaging To Replace Plastic

Quentin, a 24-year-old resident of France, came up with the innovative idea of organic zero-waste food packaging. During his trip to Australia, he saw his family using beeswax wraps for food packaging. After getting back to France, he developed his own recipe of a beeswax wrap from organic ingredients. It can replace food packaging items such as plastic bags and films, helping in promoting zero-waste movement.
