Sundar Pichai, the current Chief Executive Officer of Google – the internet behemoth – has been named the new CEO of Google’s parent company Alphabet. This came in after Larry Page, the founder and CEO of Alphabet stepped down. With this, both the co-founders of Google – Larry Page and Sergey Brin are taking a step back from running the everyday operations at Alphabet.

Pichai shared a post on social media post the announcement.

I’m excited about Alphabet’s long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology. Thanks to Larry & Sergey, we have a timeless mission, enduring values and a culture of collaboration & exploration – a strong foundation we’ll continue to build on https://t.co/tSVsaj4FsR

Pichai has been the CEO of Google since 2015 and has been with the organization for over 15 years now. His rise to the top job at Google is nothing short of meteoric and is certainly remarkable.

More about Sundar Pichai…

Pichai was born in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu in a typical middle-class Indian family. Pichai’s childhood was humble: his family lived in a two-bedroom flat and did not possess a car or a TV. In an interview with the New York Times, he confessed his immense love for reading. “I read whatever I could get my hands on,” he said.

He pursued his engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur in Metallurgical Engineering. It was here that he met his wife, Anjali.

He then moved to the United States to pursue his higher education. He pursued a Masters from Stanford and, subsequently, an MBA from Wharton School of Business. He also enjoyed a stint in McKinsey & Company post his education.

He joined Google in 2004 and rose to fame soon after. He was part of the Chrome web browser project, which was a huge success. With this success came more responsibility for Pichai. In 2013, he headed the Android mobile operating system division at Google and was announced the CEO in 2015.

Apart from his astute knowledge of technology, Pichai is also known to be soft-spoken, humble, and extremely passionate.

We wish Pichai the best of luck in his new role. Will he lead Alphabet to newer heights? Only time will tell!
