Elon Musk is no ordinary entrepreneur. That he is a maverick and a visionary is known. It is also known that he holds citizenship of the United States, Canada, and South Africa. Interestingly, he was offered citizenship by the Chinese government recently!
Musk was in China recently to break ground on Tesla’s first car manufacturing site outside of the United States. The plan is for the plant, which will cost 2 billion dollars, to begin the production of the Tesla Model 3 by the end of the year. A noteworthy fact is that this is China’s first completely foreign-owned car plant. Hence, since this will be a Tesla-owned factory, it would shield Tesla against import tariffs. Further, Tesla would not have to share its profits with the local Chinese partners.

Musk also met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, who was extremely supportive of Musk’s venture. The Premier hoped that this facility and Musk would stabilize the frosty U.S-China trade relationship. However, what surprised many is that the Premier offered the entrepreneur a “Chinese green card” in response to him saying that he hoped to build Tesla’s Shanghai plant into a global example and that he wanted to visit China more often.
This offer actually puts him into an elite league of privileged people that include Nobel laureates! Isn’t this a fantastic distinction for this absolutely amazing entrepreneur!
