Apple’s First Film ‘On the Rocks’ Will be Directed by Sofia Coppola

The tech giant Apple is likely to release its own streaming platform soon. No official release date of the same has been announced by the company but the media is speculating that it will release by 2019. According to Variety, the company will spend up to $1 bn for original content.

Apple has roped in Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette director Sofia Coppola to direct its first original feature film On the Rocks. The plotline will revolve around a young mother who reunites with her playboy father. On the Rocks will have actors like Bill Murray and Rashida Jones starring in the lead roles.

Apple has pegged a deal with A24, the co-producer of the film, to make a string of movies together. Films such as Moonlight and Hereditary are ascribed to A24. In future TV projects, Apple will also work with Jennifer Aniston, Steven Spielberg and Reese Witherspoon.
