4th February is observed as World Cancer Day across the world. It aims reduce the number of preventable deaths by raising awareness about this deadly disease and encouraging is prevention, detection, and treatment.

Theme for World Cancer Day 2020

The theme for World Cancer Day from 2019 to 2021 is ‘I am and I will.’ According to the website, this theme is “an empowering call-to-action urging for personal commitment and represents the power of individual action taken now to impact the future.”

Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the world and around 9.6 million people die from this disease each year. However, at least one third of the common cancers are preventable and close to 3.7 million lives can be saved by early detection, appropriate treatment, and prevention.

Some risk factors include alcohol consumption, lack of physical activity, being overweight or obese, tobacco consumption, ionizing radiation, and inappropriate diet and nutrition.

Tobacco use is the largest preventable cause of cancer. Smoking tobacco accounts for 30% of all cancer deaths and 80% of all lung cancer deaths. Encourage your loved ones to quit smoking (WHO). #IAmAndIWill pic.twitter.com/aVg8aOIfwr
