In today’s grim scenario where we are plagued by a pandemic and acute climate crisis, a healthy planet is not an option – it is a necessity. As the climate crisis exacerbates each year, Earth Day is gaining more prominence and relevance across the world.
Earth Day is observed annually to bring people from across the world together to highlight the importance of a healthy Earth. It also seeks to help people collaborate to work on pressing issues such as global warming, carbon emissions, pollution, and deforestation, among others.
Theme of 2021 World Earth Day
The theme of 2021 World Earth Day is ‘Restore Our Earth‘. This theme seeks to underscore the importance of restoring the ecosystem by means of greener initiatives, sustainable processes, and innovative thinking.
Multiple summits, panel discussions, and workshops to be held virtually have been planned in recognition of this day by Earthday.org, an organization whose mission is to “diversify, educate, and activate the environmental movement worldwide”. Many world leaders, climate activists, industry leaders, and artists are expected to come together to urge everyone to make the earth a better place.
#EarthDay is celebrated annually on 22 April and will again see more than 1 billion people participating.
This year, the day presents a major opportunity for significant climate action announcements ahead of #COP26.
