South Africa stunned England 32-12 to lift the 2019 Rugby World Cup held in Japan, winning its third title overall. South Africa has previously won the Webb Ellis Cup in 1995 and 2007. It has now tied with New Zealand for winning the most number of Rugby World Cups.

With this win, the nation also became the only team ever to have a 100 per cent win rate in the final of the World Cup.

Fans rejoiced every moment of this match as the South Africans scored a huge win under the captaincy of Siya Kolisi. The team’s first-ever black captain, Siya Kolisi made this win a symbolic moment for the Springboks.

In the past, South African President Nelson Mandela celebrated their first World Cup win back in 1995 with then captain Francois Pienaar, which was an iconic moment for the fans.

As reported by BBC, the fans at the public viewing centre in Johannesburg were chanting Kolisi’s name at the final whistle. It was quite a memorable moment for all of them. The South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also attended the finals in Japan. Post their win, he tweeted: “WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!”

After the match, Kolisi addressed the crowd and said that they were eternally grateful to the people of South Africa. He further added, “We have so many problems in our country. [The team] come from different backgrounds and different races and we came together with one goal and we wanted to achieve it. I really hope we’ve done that for South Africa, to show that we can pull together if we want to achieve something.”

Many congratulations to the South African team on this stupendous victory!
