In a phenomenal move towards becoming eco-friendly, Inditex – the parent company of the high street fashion chain Zara – announced that by 2025, all of Zara’s collection will be made from 100% sustainable fabrics. This means that all the fabric will be organic, sustainable, and recyclable.
Owned by Spain’s richest man Amancio Ortega, Inditex is one of the biggest apparel companies in the world and is headquartered in Spain.
The company also said that it will extend this to its other brands that include Bershka, Massimo Dutti, Zara Home, and Pull & Bear.
It made this pledge towards sustainability at its annual meeting held recently.
Apart from this, Inditex has undertaken a host of other initiatives to go green and has promised to make the environment more sustainable. For instance, it has pledged to make all Zara stores eco-efficient by the end of this year. Further, it aims at ensuring that 80% of the energy consumed in Zara’s stores, factories, offices, logistic centres, and distribution centres be from renewable sources. It also aims to do away with the use of plastic bags across all of its brands by 2020.
Also, in the past few years, it has installed clothes banks and kiosks in various stores across the world, whereby customers can drop off their used garments, footwear, and accessories. It has also collaborated with the Red Cross in redistributing these items to reduce the menace of wastage.
Aren’t these some fantastic initiatives by Inditex? It certainly is proving to be an organization that is weighing the environmental impact of fashion and working effectively to mitigate any detrimental impact to the environment at large.
