Go on an Adventure and be Gentle on Yourself:

There is nothing wrong in doing a few things hither and thither when you want to get used to your new surroundings. Firstly, in a new city, you will have to have a better sense of direction so carry a map or your phone with yourself too! Even if you go by yourself, check out new restaurants, museums, and concerts. The best option, however, is to land in the choicest of restaurants that the city offers.

You can make a list of the sumptuous places and grab a bite on different menus and dishes. Notice the incredible ingredients that go into your food in the meanwhile! You will then be pleasantly surprised to find out that you are truly comfortable eating alone.

Grasp the Public Transportation Routes:

It is unrealistic to always avail cab-hailing services. In a new city, you will be bound to take the public transportation sometimes. Don’t you think that it helps you get familiar with the city? Hop on the subways frequently that expose you to the latest and greatest sights. You can also take a bus ride that takes you beyond the swanky high-rises. When you learn about the different routes, you can navigate swiftly through the new city.

During your journey, take a while to chat with people that share the same interest as you. Who knows, you may end up finding your first friend in the city in your commute itself?

Land in a Local Planetarium or Observatory:

You may have seen this a lot in many romantic comedies. Well, you can say that we have borrowed the idea from there and we won’t complain. This idea works wonders!

You can replicate the scenes of the couple under the stars around a telescope, but you must do it all alone. Do you think it’s cheesy? No, try for yourself to know the ecstasy. Try out some constellation shows and electric views of the night sky while soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.

Pick up a Hobby that will Get You out of Your House:

Snag yourself a hobby that brings you close to the local culture. Let us suggest some for you: take dance classes, art lessons, join a baking class, or simply do something that excites your spirit. You will only know the city better when you step outside the house. Make yourself a schedule to explore the city outside of your working hours.

Get Yourself Clicked in a Botanical Garden:

Many people will leap at the chance to visit a botanical garden because they are obsessed with the beauty of the natural world. The succulents and ivy are captivating, especially because they make a great background for pictures. Visiting a botanical garden in a new city will really be a rewarding experience. The individual droplets of water on the leaves will enthral you. Plus, when you take pictures posed-against the brightly coloured-flowers, you will gather good content for Instagram!

Visit the Local Farmers Market:

When you become one with the locals, you get to know the city better. In the same vein as hopping around restaurants and catching pristine glimpses of the night-sky in planetariums, you can visit a local farmers market too!

Visiting the farmers market means laying your hands on the fresh organic produces. However, it may not always be the season of fresh fruits and vegetables. In that case, you will need to plan your excursion accordingly.

Read Local Publications:

This is the cleverest way to explore a new city. The local publications are an awesome insider guide to the city. You can score great deals and become aware of the best places to go by subscribing to any widely circulated local publication. In fact, following the groups and events on Facebook too is a great way of knowing the city.

Reach out to Friends of Friends:

If you are looking for someone to hang out with, reach out to your network! You can check whether alumni from your school lives in the same city; you can ask them to connect you to people they may know. Also, don’t turn down the invites that come in your way too because the more time you spend around people, the more likely you are to become friends with them.

If settling down in a new city seems nerve-wracking, stressing about it more will not be of any help. If you want to give some time to yourself at home, that is absolutely fine too. We understand that everybody needs their time to begin working on things.

Also, when you are trying to get the lay of the land, don’t forget to consult Google maps, Yelp or City Search. These are the neat tricks to find interesting things near you.

Don’t be a shy wallflower, go enjoy!
