Bahrain, a tiny island nation situated north of Asia’s Arabian peninsula, is ready to launch the world’s largest eco-friendly underwater theme park in August 2019.
Officials quoted that this new Bahrain attraction adheres to strict environmental standards and will promote marine life growth and revive the local ecosystem.
The attraction spreads across an area of 100,000 square meters, incorporating a replica of a traditional Bahraini pearl merchant’s house, artificial coral reefs, and sculptures made from eco-friendly material.
Set up in northern waters of the mainland, around 30 kilometres from the Amwaj island and with an approximate depth of 20 metres, the park opens in the summer of 2019.
A purposefully submerged Boeing 747 will be the centrepiece of this water park. Interestingly, this 70-metre aircraft is also the largest immersed aircraft ever. All its surfaces have been fully decontaminated to avoid any possible damage to wildlife and it will experience a high-pressure wash with bio-friendly detergents.
The park aims to establish its image as an “international tourist attraction” by providing a one of a kind experience for diving enthusiasts. Further, the site also provides the provision for “live lab” to school and university students, allowing them to conduct practical experiments.
The project is the end product of the negotiations between public and private groups, which include Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, the Supreme Council for Environment, the Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and a number of private companies.
