What if the looks that kill can also chill? A new cooling paint that grows cooler when the sun grows hotter is the hottest in technology. An Israeli company SolCold is trialling paint that can flip the temperature by a cool 10 degrees Celsius. Think of SolCold as a thin layer of ice that gets thinner or thicker as the sun gets stronger or weaker, says CEO Yaron Shenhav. The twin-layer cooling paint can save up to 60 per cent of the air-conditioning cost, he says. The paint costs about $50 a square meter but can last for upwards of 10 years, Shenhav says.
