Benedicte, a baby in Congo, has miraculously survived after being infected with Ebola virus a mere six days after her birth. She has been discharged from the treatment facility in Beni, a city in north-eastern Congo. According to the health ministry of Congo, she is the youngest survivor of this deadly disease and is rightly being called a ‘young miracle.’ Unfortunately, her mother, who was also suffering from the virus, passed away during childbirth.

Congo has been traumatized with this outbreak of the virus. Over 500 cases have been reported and the virus has already claimed over two hundred lives.

According to the World Health Organization, Ebola is transmitted to humans from wild animals. It spreads in humans through human-to-human transmission through bodily fluids. While early supportive care improves the likelihood of survival, there is no treatment for it yet.
