Joe Cuba, a World War Veteran who will turn 100 on 2nd March 2019, had a unique, interesting, and modest wish for his birthday. He wished for 100 cards for his 100th birthday. And that’s not much, isn’t it? But, he received much more than that. Errmm, over 10,000 to be precise.
This innovative idea was the brainchild of Stephanie Veitenheimer, who works at Brookdale Midwestern Community in Wichita Falls, Texas. This is where Cuba resides. She put up a picture on Facebook of Cuba holding a board that reads, “I’m a WW2 veteran who will be turning 100 on March 2 2019. I would like to receive 100 birthday cards.” His address is also written on the board.
And we do know how news spreads on social media. The post soon went viral and was shared thousands of times. Soon enough, people across the world began pouring in their wishes in the form of heartwarming cards for the veteran. Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Netherlands are only a few of the countries from where he has received cards. What’s more, he has also received small gifts and souvenirs.
And, it doesn’t end there. People are making cards and posting it under #joecuba all over social media. Cuba, who was a technical sergeant in the United States Army Air Force, is being thanked and appreciated for his services in the armed forces.

Cuba is “really excited” to have received such a response to his post. All of his cards are now being stacked at an empty apartment at Brookdale Midwestern so that Cuba can have a look at them on his birthday.
