Talk about reunions. Well, this one is a bit late. 65 years late, to be exact. And as reunions generally are, this too was quite a surprise for the parties involved.

But before you jump to conclusions and start imaging some lovey-dovey stuff, let’s set the record straight. This reunion is between a woman and her purse, which she had lost 65 years ago at her school. And, of which she was totally unaware. Imagine losing or misplacing your purse and not even being aware of that. And, then one day the luck god smiles and you are reunited with it, just like that!

Martha ‘Marty’ Everett got the surprise of her life when a purse that she had lost in her high school was recently mailed back to her. The black purse was found by the construction workers during the demolition of the school that Martha attended.

They found the purse behind the science classroom cabinets at the former Jeffersonville High School in Indiana and handed over the purse to the school authorities. And, the authorities immediately started a search for Martha.

“Lost and Found Alert: Martha Ina Ingham’s handbag from 1954 has been found in the Franklin Square demolition,” read the Facebook post by the school district officials. “We would love to return it to her or her family!”

The post was discovered by one of Martha’s relatives, who then contacted Martha’s children. And soon enough, the purse was on its way to Martha, who shuttles between Florida and Maryland.

The 81-year-old was pleasantly surprised and equally shocked.

The purse contained a lipstick, some chewing gum wrappers, Martha’s Social Security card, school basketball schedule and a first-place ribbon for the mile relay at a 1954 track meet. Apart from all this mundane stuff, the purse also contained a handwritten letter from an admirer asking Martha to the prom. Now isn’t that romantic! Love before the advent of social media and WhatsApp.

Now, this letter might be quite late in reaching Martha, but at least it did. And, this story might seem totally out of a movie, but it just restores one’s faith in humanity and the fact that what’s yours will someday sure find a way of reaching back.
