Nike is donating around 30,000 sneakers to healthcare workers across the United States at the forefront of the coronavirus pandemic. Remarkably, these Air Zoom Pulse sneakers have specifically been designed for healthcare workers.

An additional 2,500 pairs of these sneakers are also being donated to healthcare facilities in Europe, including cities such as London, Paris, Belgium, and Berlin.

These sneakers were originally released in November last year and is the first shoe from the Nike stable that has been designed specifically for the healthcare workers. Nike worked in collaboration with Oregon Health & Science University and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon to design these sneakers. The shoes, which are fit with cushioning and traction systems, have been designed to provide comfort to the frontline healthcare personnel, who often stand for long hours.

Nike has partnered with Good360, a non-profit organization in the United States, to effectively distribute these product donations.

“The effort is led by messages of gratitude to healthcare professionals,” Nike said in its release. “From one athlete to another, Nike athletes recognize the physical and mental resilience of healthcare athletes.”

Nike is also stepping up to donate over 100,000 pieces of apparel and equipment globally, which include 95,000 pairs of soccer socks that offer mild compression. In the past few months, it has also donated 1,100 Nike Sportswear kits — which including drawstring bag, water bottle, hat or headband and socks — to healthcare workers in New York City.

Its team has also come forward to create and donate full-face shields as well as powered, air-purifying respirator (PAPR) lenses for the protection of medical workers at the forefront of the coronavirus battle.

According to its official blog, Nike has, till date, contributed more than $25 million towards efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
