Environmentalist and climate change activist Greta Thunberg needs little introduction. This 16-year-old from Sweden is spearheading a movement to combat the apathy of the government and regulatory bodies across the world towards global warming and climate change.

She has become a force to reckon with as she urges the governments across the world to take immediate action to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Thunberg has been in the news recently for her remarkable decision to sail across the Atlantic Ocean on a zero-emission yacht to attend two important climate change summits. Thunberg refuses to fly due to the high emissions and the adverse environmental impact of air travel.

She will now make the journey across the Atlantic to attend the UN Climate Action Summit in the headquarters of the United Nations in New York on 23 September by Malizia-II, a zero-emissions, high-speed sailboat. The yacht generates electricity by means of solar panels and underwater turbines. The journey is expected to take two weeks to complete.

Thunberg confirmed the same by tweeting about her journey.

Good news!
I’ll be joining the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, COP25 in Santiago and other events along the way.
I’ve been offered a ride on the 60ft racing boat Malizia II. We’ll be sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to NYC in mid August.#UniteBehindTheScience pic.twitter.com/9OH6mOEDce

She and her father will make the journey in the sailboat captained by Boris Herrmann, a professional race skipper.

Subsequently, she will travel from New York to Santiago in Chile to attend the Climate Change Conference in December. She is also due to visit many other places across the Americas in the next few months.
