Captain Tom Moore is now a household name and needs no introduction.

Now 100, the former war veteran had raised a donation of a whopping 32 million pounds for the NHS charities by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.

While he had initially aimed to raise 1000 pounds by walking laps of his 25 metre garden in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, he ended up with more than 32 million pounds, becoming an inspiring in the United Kingdom and across the world.

And now, the war veteran is to be knighted as part of his exceptional efforts after a special nomination from the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

“Colonel Tom’s fantastic fundraising broke records, inspired the whole country and provided us all with a beacon of light through the fog of coronavirus,” said Johnson in a press release.

“On behalf of everyone who has been moved by his incredible story, I want to say a huge thank you. He’s a true national treasure,” Johnson said of Captain Moore.

The knighthood has been approved by the Queen and will be announced formally soon. Subsequently, Captain Moore’s title will be Captain Sir Thomas Moore.

Captain Moore also shared a message on Twitter for his followers:

1/2 A message from Tom; ‘I am absolutely overwhelmed. Never for one moment could I have imagined I would be awarded with such a great honour. I’d like to thank Her Majesty The Queen, the Prime Minister and the Great British public. I will remain at your service…

2/2 This started as something small and I’ve been overwhelmed by the gratitude and love from the British public and beyond.

We must take this opportunity to recognise our frontline heroes of the National Health Service who put their lives at risk every day to keep us safe.’

On his 100th birthday on 30th April 2020, the entire nation joined in to celebrate. Moore received birthday greetings from the Queen and the Prime Minister and around 140,000 cards, which included a card from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. He was also made an honorary colonel by the 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, in which he had served during World War Two. But that is not all!

He also received a Royal Mail birthday postmark and an RAF flypast!

Captain Moore deserves all this and more for his never-say-die spirit and phenomenal enthusiasm! Do you agree? Let us know your views in the comments section below!
