Calling the Burj Khalifa – the tallest tower in the world – a spectacle is an understatement. Millions of people from all over the world visit the Khalifa each year. Standing at an astounding 828 metres, it is nearly 200 metres taller than the second tallest building in the world – the Shanghai Tower in China.

And on 15th January, the Burj Khalifa lit up in solidarity with Australia, where wildfires have been ravaging and destroying massive areas.

The three-minute display, which used the hashtag #MatesHelpMates urged people from across the world to donate to the noble cause.

The Emirates Red Crescent is raising funds to support this crisis.

Commenting on the campaign, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said: “The UAE community continues to identify ways to demonstrate that our country stands with Australia and seeks to support its people in any way possible. It is our sincere hope that the #MatesHelpMates campaign raises awareness of the situation in Australia and mobilizes members of the public to donate generously.”

While donations from all across the world have been pouring in towards this, there is certainly more that we can do! And in unity lies strength, and together, we are sure that we will overcome this global problem. It is so beautiful to see the world come together to help the ravaged nation.
