Never think you are too little to make a difference!

A six-year-old from Saanich in British Columbia came up with a very innovative way to spread some cheer and happiness in his community during these bleak times.

Callaghan McLaughlin decided to set up a ‘Drive-by Walk-by Joke Stand’!

For the past week, Callaghan has been running his ‘joke stand’ on Penrhyn Street, giving a good laugh to those who pass by while very much following the social distancing guidelines.

He starts shop at 10 in the morning, takes a lunch break, and comes back for another round of offering jokes and laughs to his neighbours and people that walk or drive by.

His mother Kelsea McLaughlin put up a post on her Instagram account to encourage her son, saying “Please drive by and hear a joke from this kid.”

“Most people at minimum give him a smile or wave,” she said. “Several people do stop and ask to hear a joke, and typically reciprocate with one of their own.”

How did Callaghan manage to come up with this interesting concept of a joke stand?

His mother explains that the kid was missing interacting with the other children due to the lockdowns because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I tried to find an idea where he could still be socially present in our community but be distant at the same time,” she said.

And where did Callaghan learn all these wisecracks? From a children joke book of one-liners that his parents bought for him six months back. And he has been practicing the jokes on his parents for six months now. Little wonder that he is now a pro at this!

Importantly, Callaghan offers his service at no cost at all.

“I want people to save their money for other things,” he said. “Some people need the money for groceries now instead of jokes.”

Such a sensitive and amazing child Callaghan is! Don’t you agree?
