Young Minds, a U.K based charity working towards children and young people’s mental health, has begun a new initiative on Twitter to help people love themselves more. And this is called #5YearOldSelfie!
We all have negative thoughts many times and say unkind things to ourselves. However, the organization believes that how we speak to ourselves has a huge role to play in what we believe we are, which impacts how we deal with life’s challenges. So, it has come up with this unique initiative of making self-talk more positive and helping people be kind to themselves and love themselves more.
To be a part of this initiative, all you have to do is find a photo of yourself when you were younger, post it on Twitter, and write three things that you’d say to your younger self. Young Minds, then, asks us to remember these things when we are unkind to ourselves.
And in no time, this unique challenge caught up on Twitter with people using #5YearOldSelfie and saying beautiful things to their younger selves.
Have a look at a few responses:
1) I’m sorry you’re so sad.
2) Life gets better.
3) You’re gonna be fine.
BONUS) See a therapist. It’s cool. pic.twitter.com/BQNfyn82ga— AE Stueve (@AEStueve) August 8, 2019

What would I tell my 5yr old self?#5YearOldSelfie:
Life is hard AF, a lot of it is a lie, you will cry SO MUCH, people will be cruel… but you’re SO STRONG. You have no idea how strong you are, so *never* give up.P.S. what you love is called “space” and women can study it. pic.twitter.com/ZEtYu6SOF4

2. Try not to act out when you get frustrated.
3. Your sister will be your best friend in 15 years, just wait! pic.twitter.com/L2J4W6ZKwH— Hayley (@hayleyjostewie) August 9, 2019
What I’d tell my 5 year old self:
• You’re going to deal with really tough things in life, it’s important to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
• Don’t second guess yourself, trust your gut and dream big.
• Be yourself and don’t let people bring you down.#5YearOldSelfie pic.twitter.com/t9QohonJ3n— steph (@stephaniecarney) August 9, 2019
