Some supermen don’t wear capes!
And here is an example of one such superman.
29-year-old Robert Carter from Cincinnati, Ohio recently adopted five siblings because he did not want them to be separated.
One of nine children, Carter himself grew up in a foster care. This motivated him to adopt young children and give them a good life. Also, he knew the trauma and pain of being separated from his siblings: when he entered the foster system, his youngest brother was just 2 and Carter wouldn’t see him for 14 long years!
Having known and experienced the trauma of being separated from his siblings, he did not want other children to face the same adversity.
In December 2018, Carter began fostering three boys, Robert Jr., Giovanni, and Kiontae. He soon, however, learned that the three boys also had two sisters from whom they had been separated six months back. In a bid to bring back all the siblings together, Carter got in touch with the foster moms of the two girls for a play date.
Carter was overwhelmed by what he saw when all the siblings came together.
“The kids saw each other and started hugging and crying and wouldn’t let go,” Carter said. “That was the moment I said ‘okay I’m going to take all five.’”
“I know the pain of being separated too well and I could not let that happen to them,” Carter said about his five children.
So, he went ahead and decided to adopt all the five siblings! And after the adoption process was completed in the end of October, Carter’s family has grown manifold to include Marionna, 10, Robert Jr., 9, Makayla, 8, Giovanni, 5, and Kiontae, 4.
“After it was finalized, I just cried because it was over and I didn’t have to worry about if they were going to be moved or would have to suffer anymore,” Carter told SWNS. “I woke up the next day feeling relieved, at peace and blessed to have these kids.”
Carter is now looking to buy a home for his family and Kyle Hall, a kind soul, has set up a GoFundMe account to help him with this goal.
“I can’t even explain how unbelievable it is, just to have support and people sharing our story to bring awareness to the fact that we still have so many kids that need homes,” Carter said.
“I’m just happy that I’m able to help encourage people to step up as foster and adoptive parents so we can get these kids into great hands,” he added.
