The coronavirus pandemic has created havoc world over, and the entertainment and film industry has also been majorly affected by it. Most of the film festivals from across the globe that were due to be held have either been suspended or cancelled.

However, over twenty major film festivals from across the world are coming in together for a 10-day online streaming event called ‘We are One: A Global Film Festival.’ The event has been produced and organized by Tribeca Enterprises, co-founded in 2003 by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal.

Among others, this event will feature content curated from the Berlin International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and Jerusalem Film Festival. While the detailed schedule is due to come up closer to the event, it is expected to showcase movies, documentaries, comedy, conversations, and music.

This mega event will be hosted on YouTube from 29th May onwards and will be streamed for free. It will also aim to raise funds for the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

With regards to joining the online event, the organisers of the Cannes film festival said they were proud to join in the YouTube event “to spotlight truly extraordinary films and talent, allowing audiences to experience both the nuances of storytelling from around the world and the artistic personalities of each festival.”

Also, Jane Rosenthal, a co-founder of the cancelled Tribeca film festival in New York, said the idea was to inspire and unite people across borders during the pandemic.

“We often talk about film’s uniquely powerful role in inspiring and uniting people across borders and differences to help heal the world,” said Rosenthal. “All of the world needs healing right now.”

The event will be held till 7th June and will be available for viewing on YouTube.com/WeAreOne.

We’d be glued to our screen watching this event in May. How about you?
