The 71st Emmy Awards have been announced!

One of the most anticipated events in the world of TV, the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards have held at the Microsoft Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, California. The awards recognize excellence in the television industry and were first awarded around 7 decades back in 1940.

Interestingly, the event did not have a host, only the fourth time in its history that it went hostless.

And while there were some surprise, some awards were expected and deserved.

The HBO fantasy-drama series Games of Thrones maintained its dominance in the genre of drama, winning the Outstanding Drama Series. Meanwhile, Peter Dinklage, who played the role of the iconic Tyrion Lannister won the award for the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The British comedy-drama series Fleabag won the most number of awards – 4, which included the Outstanding Comedy Series. Phoebe Waller-Bridge also won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Fleabag.

Also, Chernobyl, which dramatized the 1986 nuclear disaster, won the Outstanding Limited Series, along with the Best Writing and Directing for a Limited Series.
