The skipper of the Indian cricket team Virat Kohli is not new to creating records, and then breaking them. And he recently created another massive record.

On 23rd March 2021, Kohli became the fastest player to score 10,000 international runs on home soil when he smashed 56 runs against England during the first ODI at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. India won the match comprehensively by 66 runs, securing a 1-0 lead in the three match series.

Kohli has scored a whopping 10002 runs in international cricket on home soil in 195 innings at an average of an impressive 61.74. The swashbuckling batsman bettered Ricky Ponting’s record of reaching the milestone in 210 innings. Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar is third on the list, reaching 10,000 runs on home soil in 223 innings.

Apart from achieving this remarkable feat, he also surpassed Jacques Kallis from South Africa in the list of most 50+ scores in ODI cricket. Kohli now has 104 half centuries to his credit in ODIs and is now just behind Ricky Ponting from Australia (112), Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka (118), and Sachin Tendulkar from India (145).

Considered one of the most talented batsmen in the world, the 32-year-old Kohli is one of the highest scoring cricketers of all time. He has scored 12096 runs in ODI cricket, the 6th highest of all time. Interestingly, however, Kohli is the only player on the list of top 10 run scorers in ODI cricket who is still active.

We are certain that by the time Kohli ends his cricketing career, he will be the leading run scorer in international cricket. Do you agree? Let us know your views in the comments section below.
