Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 16th August 2020, achieving his 156th podium finish and breaking the record for the most podium finishes in F1 history. The earlier record was held by iconic F1 racer Micheal Schumacher, who had 155 podium finishes. This record stood since 2012, when Schumacher earned the third place in Valencia in what would be the final podium of his career.
Remarkably, the 156 podium finishes for Hamilton come from a mere 256 races at an astonishing ration of 61 per cent, reinforcing why Hamilton is regarded as one of the all-time greats of F1.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished second while Merecedes’ Valtteri Bottas finished third in the race which was otherwise dominated by Hamilton.
After the race, Hamilton said, “I was in a daze out there,” he says. “It felt really good. It was a fantastic effort from the team.
“It was a surprise because we had that problem with the tyres last weekend, but we seem to have understood it.
“I didn’t even know it was the last lap I was so zoned in. I thought for a little bit about going for a one-stop strategy.”
Hamilton shared a message on social media admitting that words cannot describe how he feels and thanking his team in helping him achieve this amazing feat.

In winning the Spanish Grand Prix, the 35-year-old Hamilton is now within three of Micheal Schumacher’s race victory milestone of 91 race victories in a year.
And it seems extremely likely that he would surpass this record as well!
