26-year-old all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall of West Indies set a pretty unique record when he was inducted in the playing XI for the ongoing second test match against India at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
And what was the record?
At 140 kilograms, Cornwall – who is 6 feet and 6 inches tall – became the heaviest cricketer ever in international cricket. He achieved this feat by surpassing former Australian captain Warwick Armstrong, who weighed around 133-139 kilos. Armstrong had made his debut, a long time back, in 1902 and played cricket for around two decades since.
But Cornwall is not just known for his towering personality. He has been one of the most consistent cricketers in the domestic cricket circuit in West Indies. While he is an off-spinner, he can also be a valuable asset to the team with his batting skills. In first-class cricket where he plays for Leeward Island, Cornwall has scored 2224 runs in 55 matches and has taken 260 wickets at an average of 23.90. He was also named the Championship Player of the Year by Cricket West Indies, the governing body for cricket in the West Indies.
He made his test debut in the second test match of West Indies against India; he was not selected for the first test held at Antigua that the host nation lost to India by 318 runs.
