Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic is not ranked number one for no reason. Considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time, he has achieved great heights and broken many records in his illustrious career.

Djokovic added another feather to his cap recently. He beat 14th seeded Canadian player Milos Raonic 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in two hours and 56 minutes on the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne to earn a place in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open 2021, becoming the only second tennis player to record 300 wins at Grand Slams.

Djokovic showed little signs of the abdominal muscle injury that he was suffering from, slamming 10 aces in the match.

“Mentally I think you have to accept that I did come into the match knowing that I’ll probably feel pain all the way through, which was the case,” Djokovic told reporters after the win. “But the level of the pain was bearable, so I could actually play and it was kind of going on and off a little bit during the match.

The only other player to have achieved this remarkable feat is Roger Federer, who has won 362 Grand Slam matches with a 362-59 win-loss record. Rafael Nadal from Spain is not far behind Djokovic with 289 wins. Jimmy Conors and Andre Agassi from the United States of America are next with 233 and 224 Grand Slam wins respectively.

The 33-year old Djokovic, who is also an eight-time Australian Open champion, will now face German Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal.
