Nike’s latest entrant is a revolutionary debutante. It first made its appearance at the Oscars. And since then has got a lot of love, especially from women.

We are talking about the company’s new advertisement. The new ad, narrated by Serena Williams, celebrates women athletes in a big way. The commercial calls out the double standards women have to face in the sports arena.

“If we show emotion, we’re called dramatic. If we want to play against men, we’re nuts. And if we dream of equal opportunity, delusional,” Williams is heard saying in the new ad.

Aptly titled ‘Dream Crazier’, Nike’s 90-second ad features a number of trailblazing women athletes, and serves as a tribute to them. The ad highlights the disparity women have to face in sports when it comes to their performance and success.

Serena goes on to say, “When we stand for something, we’re unhinged. When we’re too good, there’s something wrong with us. And if we get angry, we’re hysterical, irrational, or just being crazy.”

“So if they want to call you crazy, fine,” she declares. “Show them what crazy can do.”

The ad showcases the achievements of Serena Williams along with other women in sports such as Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, snowboarder Chloe Kim, and former WNBA superstar Lisa Leslie.

After its premiere at the Oscars, the ad has gone viral on Twitter and garnered a lot of love and affection.

I’m bawling, considering all the people who told me it was crazy to want to be a nurse since I’m hearing impaired. I’m graduating with my nursing degree in 3 months. Thank you ladies for inspiring me and showing me crazy dreams aren’t so crazy after all. @nike

The ad by Nike is a welcome move. In today’s times when gender bias and equality are hot topics for discussion, this commercial is exciting and encouraging.

A few days ago, Gillette had also launched an ad campaign wherein it reinforced what it meant to be a real man.

These are small steps and it will take some time to change people’s perception of women in this patriarchal society, but at least someone is trying!

Do let us know what you think of this new ad.
