It all began when some subscribers of Netflix noticed that the very popular sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S was going to be available on the streaming portal only till the end of 2018. Fans of the sitcom were angered and outraged by this move and threatened to cancel their subscriptions if their favorite show was taken off. The huge amount of customer feedback and backlash that came by made Netflix revoke its decision.
Subsequently, Netflix paid WarnerMedia, the producer of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, a whopping $100 million to continue streaming it until 2019. This figure is more than thrice the amount that Netflix currently pays annually – $30 million. Despite paying this huge cost, Netflix has also garnered a strong base of loyal customers because of this move.
