8th August marks 50 years since the iconic photo of The Beatles on the cover of the album Abbey Road was clicked. And fans of the band came in together to celebrate this momentous occasion.

The photo, which shows members of the band walking across a zebra crossing just outside the Abbey Road studio, was shot on 8th August 1969 by Scottish photographer Iain Macmillan, who took six pictures of the group in a mere ten minutes as a policeman held the traffic. The photo shows John Lennon leading the other bandmates Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. It is one of the most recognized and most imitated photos ever.

50 years ago today, @TheBeatles gathered at EMI Studios for one of the most prolific photoshoots of their career. Abbey Road was the 11th studio album of The Beatles and has some of its best songs such as ‘Come Together,’ and ‘Something.’

Around 190 songs of The Beatles were recorded at the Abbey Road Studio, just outside of which the photo was shot.

To commemorate this day, thousands of fans of The Beatles from across the world swarmed the pedestrian crossing, many of whom recreated the picture by posing across the crossing. Many others sang the band’s songs and celebrated the legacy of one of the most loved and popular bands ever.
